Hundreds of Ridgefield High School sophomores recently took part in the annual Hope in Humanity assembly, where they had the chance to connect directly with students living across Ukraine.
Thanks to a partnership between Ridgefield High School and KidsKonnectUkraine, students participated in a live Zoom conversation with Ukrainian teens. The event was hosted by Rotary and the Interact Club, creating an opportunity for students from opposite sides of the world to learn from one another and share their experiences.
The Ukrainian students answered questions created by Ridgefield students and gave an honest look into their everyday lives. They talked about Ukrainian culture, school, family traditions, and what it’s like growing up during a time of war.
Students also shared some of the challenges they face, from air raid sirens and disrupted routines to the uncertainty that comes with living in a conflict zone. But perhaps most inspiring was hearing about the resilience they’ve developed and the ways they continue to find hope, stay connected, and move forward despite difficult circumstances.
For many Ridgefield students, the conversation put a human face on a conflict they’ve only seen in the news. Hearing directly from peers their own age created a deeper understanding of what life is really like in Ukraine and highlighted just how much young people have in common, no matter where they live.
The Hope in Humanity assembly is a powerful reminder of the importance of global connections and meaningful dialogue. Through programs like these, KidsKonnectUkraine helps students build empathy, broaden their perspectives, and create friendships that cross borders.
