Students from Ukrainian Catholic University and The Catholic University of America Talked about Energy, Economics with KKU Founder Kathleen Hessert

This week, KidsKonnectUkraine Founder Kathleen Hessert had the privilege of meeting with students from Ukrainian Catholic University and The Catholic University of America to talk about energy, economics, and the realities of living through war.

One Ukrainian student shared: “Energy plays a key role in economics… when energy is so precious, you can really feel its impact on everyday life.” Russia’s full-scale invasion has made this painfully real—energy infrastructure is targeted, blackouts are common, and families are forced to adapt to constant uncertainty.

What’s happening in Ukraine is not only a national tragedy—it’s a major challenge for the entire European region. The war is reshaping energy security, trade, and political stability across Europe, reminding us how deeply interconnected our futures are.

Seeing Ukrainian Catholic University and Catholic University of America students engage together gives hope: informed, compassionate young people are already thinking about how to rebuild, protect democracy, and create a more secure, just Europe after the war. 🇺🇦🇺🇸🇪🇺
