On Monday, May 12th, 2025 the Kalush KidsKonnectUkraine (KKU) students along with Mick Reed had the unique opportunity to interview scientist Yurii Sadovyi from the Institute for Halurgy. The interview took place on the shores of the striking Dombrivska pit lake—an otherworldly reminder of Ukraine’s deep industrial history and the evolving story of its natural landscapes.
Dr. Sadovyi shared insights into the lake’s origins, and the environmental challenges and innovations tied to the region’s salt industry. Students asked thoughtful questions and captured it all on camera for an upcoming documentary segment they’re producing as part of their KKU storytelling project.
In addition to the main interview, the student crew filmed “making-of” behind-the-scenes footage, offering a fun and personal look at what goes into field production. This BTS content will soon be shared on social media to give followers a sneak peek into their creative process.
